Sullivan Free Library – Reconstruction

"Munchkin Door"

Circulation Desk

The library is designed to include separate children’s and adult library areas, with offices and support spaces between.
Special “Oz” scenes include:
A tornado “slat-wall”
A “witch castle” in one of the former bank vaults
“Tin Man” book display at the children’s circulation desk
“Munchkin Door”
“Yellow Brick Road” ceiling details
“Emerald City” windows and mural at Librarian’s Office
The new space more than doubled the stack area available at the Library’s former location.
The Community Room accommodates banquets, receptions, and a variety of other public meetings.
The Sullivan Free Library Project in, Chittenango,
New York, designed by Teitsch-Kent-Fay Architects, P.C., involved the reconstruction of the former State Bank of Chittenango building into a vibrant new home for this growing community library
The project involved specific attention to incorporate the Library’s “Wizard of Oz” theme into the new space.
